Known as the “Coca-Cola” route, the Marangu Route is the oldest and most established trail on Mount Kilimanjaro. Many hikers favor it because of its gradual slope, making it one of the easier paths to the summit. This is also the only route that offers dormitory-style hut accommodations, providing a level of comfort not available on other trails.
For a more realistic and safer climb, we recommend a 6-day itinerary, which allows an extra day for acclimatization and significantly increases the chances of successfully reaching the summit. At HWS Adventures, we generally do not lead climbs on this route due to its limited scenic variety and the fact that the ascent and descent share the same path, making it the most crowded trail. However, it remains a practical option during the rainy season, when the hut accommodations are particularly valuable.
